Getting interested in cruises - a guide for the uninitiated

When we think of a ship-based holiday we probably all have some preconceptions about what they might be like or what we may enjoy about them but have never actually bothered to investigate further. Destinations aside, there is also quite a choice of vessels to travel aboard on and activities to take part in while on your holiday. After the ups and downs in the world economy over the last couple of years, many of us feel like we have really been through the wringer and deserve a break.
Cruises operate all year round so you can book one pretty much whenever you like, as long as you are flexible with regard to the routes. With interest rates at historical lows right now, if you need a little extra help then there is nothing to stop you applying for a personal loan, so you can enjoy the trip of a lifetime. You may think that your credit history will hinder you, but there are companies that are willing to deal with each application on an individual basis, rather than ruling people out because of past misfortunes. Cars, home improvements and holidays such as cruises are all perfectly acceptable reasons to apply for a loan. Arrears, defaults and even County Court judgements are not necessarily a problem. If you are worried about being able to afford the repayments, you can usually spread them over up to 4 years for unsecured loans and much longer for those that are secured on a home or other property.
As the economy begins to improve and people's personal finances follow suit, early repayment is always a possibility. A couple of weeks away really can recharge your batteries and put a more positive slant on life in general. Also as the pound has begun to recover, a trip abroad is certainly more affordable now than it was a few months ago. As far as holidays go, cruises have to be one of the more relaxing ways of spending a couple of weeks. The main port of departure in the UK is Southampton, but you can join a ship anywhere if you wish to take a short trip, around Africa for example, but do not want to spend the time sailing there from Britain. There are smaller vessels which only carry a few hundred passengers and quite often operate as adults-only boats, as well as giant ships resembling floating cities, that carry thousands of people at a time on cruises around the world and have lots of facilities to cater to all sorts of individuals.
